For example, a ROTA nanny may work continuously for two weeks, covering all childcare needs, then have the next two weeks off, during which another nanny takes over. This "on-off" schedule ensures that the family always has professional care. Still, the nannies also get time to recharge and attend to their own lives, hoping that the nannies will not burn out.
How long are ROTA?
This depends on the family's needs. Some ROTA positions are as short as four days, and others are as long as a couple of months. I believe that the length of the rotation should be based on the child's needs rather than on the adults' needs, as it often happens. Younger children who do not understand the concept of time will have different needs from older children who do.

It is not all fun and games as a ROTA Nanny

You may not get along with your co-nanny/ies; this can create friction at work and a toxic environment.
Nannies can burn out even if the rotations are shorter.
You may not be home much, if you are the "Favourite" Nanny.
Your relationship may take a toll due to your lack of availability.
You cannot plan, I have canceled many trips due to my ROTA roles needing me on my "off-time."
ROTA jobs can take a toll on your health if you are not careful; the long hours, the travel, and the responsibility all add up.
How to Land a ROTA Nanny Job
So, how do you go about securing one of these sought-after positions? Here are some tips:
Build Experience: Most families hiring ROTA nannies expect at least 5-10 years of experience in professional nannying, particularly with high-profile or ultra-high-net-worth clients.
Specialized Training: If you still need to, consider obtaining certifications such as newborn care specialist (NCS), Potty Trainer, or Sleep Consulting. Additional skills like speaking multiple languages, swim instruction, or a background in early childhood education can also give you an edge.
Network in the Right Circles: Some ROTA nanny positions are not advertised on mainstream job boards. Networking with agencies specializing in high-profile clients, joining exclusive nanny networks, joining the Nanny Job Bulletin, and maintaining good relationships with past employers can open doors to opportunities.
