A Tribute to Nannies: The Greatest Compliments We’ve Ever Received

The comments needed to be shared. Their effect on me was uplifting and heartwarming, and I wanted others to experience this feeling as well. What better week to share A Tribute to Nannies: The Greatest Compliments We've Ever Received than International Nanny Recognition Week?!

While reading these responses, you cannot help but think about the massive impact nannies have on children's and families' lives.

So grab a cup of tea, coffee, or whatever your vice is, and enjoy this post. But before we start, here is a quick reference guide on Nanny lingo:

NK - Nanny Kid

MB - Mom or, for the Brits, Mum Boss

G5 - Girl 5

NF - Nanny Family

I asked: "What is the greatest compliment you have received as a Nanny?

Greatest Compliment received as a nanny

Here are some of the responses. For obvious reasons, the names and identities of these nannies are not being shared.

"They wish they could clone me. To me, that means they value everything I do for the family. The grandparents have said they want "a Tiffany." When I know I am actually valued/appreciated/cared about as an employee, that's the best compliment I can receive."

"My biggest compliment is trying to get poached by so many of the amazing families I work for as an NCS, especially when they treat me well and appreciate all my input."

"The Grandmother has been visiting for two weeks and has told me, "They are so lucky to have you; we are grateful for you!" It will be 3yrs with them (Nov), and I was with the family across the street for 6yrs. ( they referred me!) All four parents are Dr.s."

"When I got told I was like a second mother to the boy and a big sister to the girl, I'll never forget that."

"G5 said I'm like a grown-up Blippi."

"My speech-impaired 2.5-year-old said, "I love you. And the fantastic references I get."

"A stranger on the tube said this to me:

"It has been wonderful watching you with your sweet little girl. Today was the first day that I left my child with his nanny. I now feel happy and at ease with my decision to return to work."

"Those kids are so well-behaved... (All 4 of them, in a dollar store) LOL"

"My NF often tells me how much I mean to them and NK and how invaluable I am to them.

But the biggest compliment I've gotten was at a splash pad this summer. A mama of some other kiddos came over and told me what an attentive, kind, and empathic nanny I was!"

"When my former NK went as a nanny for their kindergarten career day."

"My grown-up nanny kid asked her mom if she thought I could nanny for her kids when she had them. Two different nanny families told me that the kids turned out so well because of me, too."

"My last MB thanked me for being a second mom and third parent to her kids on Mother's Day and said I was the best they could've asked for. I recently took my former NKs to an amusement park with my mom, and she complimented them to MB and said, "Well, look who I got to raise them with!"

"She wished her second child would have had more time with me because of her oldest's reading skills and the work I did with him when he was four."

"The 4-year-old told me I'm the BEST NANNY EVER!"

"Parents texting you the day before ……saying the kids can't wait to see you!"

"Every last parent has told me I helped their child talk, LOL."

"The parents of my first nanny family 30 years ago said I helped their children to become the wonderful adults they are now and that I got them off to the right start."

"My employer told me I was the most genuine person she has ever met!"

"I trust your advice more than my mom's."

And I have saved this one so that you have time to get some tissues: " When I received custody of my nanny kids for 2 and 1/2 years, the mother couldn't thank me enough and said she would never trust anybody else with her children as well as the judge telling me it takes a special person with special qualities to be a great nanny and you, my dear are that." ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Over the past weekend, I had the opportunity to speak at the Coastal Nanny Retreat and hear many more heartwarming stories from the Nannies who attended. Nannies are truly a special kind of human being.

Each day, nannies step into our roles not just as caregivers but as nurturers, mentors, teachers, and companions. We devote our hearts and energy to ensuring that the children in our care feel safe, loved, and supported. Behind every smile, every meal prepared, every milestone reached, and every hug given is a commitment to a child's well-being and the trust of a family.

The bonds we form with your children are deep and lasting. We witness their first words, help them navigate challenges, and celebrate their successes. We guide them through life's small and big moments, from the joy of discovering a new toy to the confidence they build on their first day of school. These are not just tasks we complete—shared experiences, meaningful connections, and acts of love that stay with children long after we've left their daily lives.

For parents, the impact of a nanny may not always be immediately visible, but it's there in the way your child beams with joy when we arrive or the comfort they feel in our presence. It's in the trust we build with you, the parent, as partners in raising your little ones. We understand that entrusting your child to someone else is no small decision, and we take that responsibility seriously daily.

The responses shared in this blog post are a beautiful reminder of our profound influence. As nannies, we pour our hearts into your children's lives, and these stories highlight the lasting impressions we leave.

To the parents reading this, please take a moment to recognize the depth of care and commitment that goes into what we do. When you choose a nanny, you are not just selecting someone to watch over your child; you are welcoming a guide, a friend, and a partner in your family's journey.

Nannies change lives—not just for a moment, but for a lifetime.
